Understanding physical activity experiences of older adults with spinal cord injury

At the intersection of disability and ageing, the aim of this PhD is to explore the physical activity experiences of older adults with spinal cord injury (SCI). SCI has a profound impact upon an individual’s health and well-being and as people with SCI age, the challenges associated with achieving ‘successful’ or ‘active’ ageing are magnified. With an increasing number of younger people sustaining SCI living longer, and a growing population acquiring SCI at an older age, there is an urgent need to understand the unique needs of those ageing with SCI and how to enhance the participation of older adults with SCI in physical activity.
