US Department of State is Looking for Sport for Community Emerging Leader Candidates

Our friends at the U.S. Department of State/SportsUnited program are looking for people in the countries listed below who would be good candidates for their Sport for Community Global Sports Mentoring Program. The main criteria and essence of the program is described here:  U.S. Embassies abroad nominate participants who are between 25 and 40 years of age, proficient in English and industry-related terminology, and have 3 or more years of work or volunteer experience with a sport-based development program/organization.  The selected participants will demonstrate the potential to use the GSMP experience to make a significant impact in their home country’s disability sport sector. As a part of the nomination process, each emerging leader identifies a key need or challenge facing people with disabilities in their home country. During their mentorship in the U.S., they will develop a detailed action plan to address this challenge through sports. All action plans are designed to be implemented upon the emerging leaders’ return home and have the common goal of creating sports opportunities for people with disabilities. Development of the action plan serves as the culmination of the mentorship experience. The emerging leaders will draw on the resources available throughout their experience in the U.S. to create feasible and well-developed action plans. The Eligible Country List includes:

Africa: Cameroon, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Uganda

East Asia and the Pacific: China, Laos, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam

Europe: Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Kosovo, Russia, Turkey,Ukraine

NEA: Algeria, Israel, Tunisia

SCA: Bangladesh, India, Kazakhstan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Turkmenistan

Central and South America: Belize, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela
