DESCRIPTION: Humboldt State University’s Department of Kinesiology and Recreation Administration invites applications for an academic year tenure-track faculty position in Physical Education Pedagogy and Adapted Physical Education. The position will include teaching in the undergraduate and graduate programs in kinesiology, and being a member of the Adapted Physical Education Program grant funded by the United States Department of Education. The Department has a long history of preparing effective physical education and adapted physical education teachers, and received outstanding reviews in the last accreditation report from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. In the past twenty-five years, the department has received five federal grants to fund the adapted physical education program. The adapted physical education program is dedicated to preparing teachers to design and implement physical education programs that promote healthy and active lifestyles for children and youth with disabilities. The department continues to create innovative partnerships such as HSU Fit and Fitfam, community-based physical activity programs for children and their parents.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

An earned Doctorate or equivalent in Kinesiology or related field from an accredited college or university is preferred at the time of appointment. Applicants with considerable progress towards terminal degree completion by appointment date will be considered. Completion of terminal degree is required prior to the start of the second probationary year following initial appointment.
The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:
 Potential for effective teaching in physical education and adapted physical education;
 Record of building successful partnerships with k-12 schools;
 Record of experience in program development including grant writing;
 Demonstration of and/or experience promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds;
 Record of, or potential for, involving students in research and scholarly activity;
 Experience managing an accredited teacher education program and writing program documents and reports;
 Potential for effective teaching or teaching experience using a variety of methodologies;
 Interest and ability to teach a broad range of courses in kinesiology and physical education/adapted physical education; and
 Willingness to participate in the development of online learning experiences.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:
 Commitment to the development of field experience placements and supervision of students in fieldwork and student teaching; and
 Experience providing in-service education for k-12 teachers.
