The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), in partnership with the Lakeshore Foundation and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, has released the Inclusive Fitness Specialist Certificate Course. This fully online, self-paced program is designed to prepare fitness professionals to work effectively with individuals of all abilities in inclusive exercise environments.

The course includes 25 learning modules covering key topics such as disability advocacy, universal design, exercise adaptations, adaptive training protocols, and condition-specific program design. Participants will explore both foundational and advanced concepts in inclusive fitness, including client consultations, assessments, and modifications tailored to different disability groups.

Participants will receive 18 Continuing Education Credits (CECs) upon successful completion, which includes short quizzes at the end of each lesson and a final 125-question comprehensive exam. There are no formal prerequisites, though prior knowledge in exercise science or adapted physical activity is strongly recommended.

Originally developed under a NIDILRR grant, the course now serves as an educational certificate aimed at enhancing professional practice and promoting inclusive health. Accessibility is a core principle, with all content designed in alignment with current WCAG standards.

Course Fee: $199–$249 USD
Access Duration: 1 year from purchase
