It is with a heavy heart the I share that Dr. Joe P. Winnick has passed away. He was a long time colleague and friend and a true pioneer in the field. Joe started at Brockport in 1965 and created the first ever masters program in Adapted Physical Education. He co-authored one of the leading text books (now in it’s 6th edition) that has been translated into many languages He validated two health-related fitness assessments for children with disabilities most recently The Brockport Physical Fitness Test. He secured many years of government grants to support our graduate masters programs. These students have gone on to change many lives over the years and have become leaders in the field themselves. Many of us would not be where we are today without his legacy. He will be missed.
