IFAPA is pleased to announce the launch of bursaries to support women with disabilities undertaking research in sport. These bursaries will provide financial assistance to attend the International Symposium on Adapted Physical Activity (ISAPA) and the International Symposium on Physical Activity and Visual Impairment or Deafblindness, taking place in Ireland from June 16-20, 2025.

This initiative aims to promote gender equity and support researchers from diverse backgrounds, with a particular focus on applicants from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and small island developing states (SIDS). The launch of these bursaries aligns with the theme of International Women’s Day 2025, which calls for action to ensure equal rights, power, and opportunities for all women. The bursaries also recognize the upcoming 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, a landmark commitment to advancing the rights of women and girls worldwide.

As part of these efforts, the global community is invited to join the discussion on gender equity and women with disabilities in sport at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) Forum on March 12, 2025, in partnership with WomenSport International.

Applications for the bursary program are now open. Women with disabilities conducting research in sport are encouraged to apply and take advantage of this opportunity to present their work, engage with experts, and contribute to the advancement of adapted physical activity worldwide.

Abstract submissions for ISAPA 2025 remain open until March 15, 2025.
