Applications are invited for a full-time, three-year PhD studentship, jointly funded by British Wheelchair Basketball. The successful applicant will be supervised by an interdisciplinary team to evaluate British Wheelchair Basketball’s ‘Inspire A Generation’ programme. The studentship will also involve working alongside colleagues within the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences (Dr Carolynne Mason), Peter Harrison Centre for Disability (Professor Vicky Tolfrey), and Para Sport (Nik Diaper).

Full Project Detail:

Wheelchair basketball is a fast-paced sport, allowing both disabled and non-disabled people to compete in domestic leagues and competitions. British Wheelchair Basketball, with the support of Sport England, is currently delivering the Inspire A Generation programme. This 4-year programme’s broad aim is to increase participation and engagement in inclusive wheelchair basketball activities using traditional and digital interventions.

This studentship will employ a mixed method approach to evaluate the extent to which the Inspire A Generation programme enables regular participation in physical activity, as well as improve mental wellbeing, and enhance overall quality of life. The successful applicant will be expected to engage with a range of stakeholders, including participants and coaches, to identify both successful aspects of the programme and those that require further development.

This studentship will contribute to Loughborough University’s profile as number one in the world for sport-related academia. The studentship aligns with our world-leading Para Sport strategy, to create life-shaping opportunities through the development of an inspirational and inclusive Para Sport offer.
