Special Olympics has opened a call for proposals from qualified consultants to lead the development of a new Motor Activity Training Program (MATP) Healthy Athletes protocol. This initiative represents a significant step toward strengthening health promotion and inclusive sport opportunities for athletes with profound, severe, and multiple intellectual and developmental disabilities who have high support needs.
The selected consultant, either an individual or an organization, will be responsible for conducting background research, designing a protocol framework, and developing a comprehensive evidence-based MATP Healthy Athletes protocol. The protocol will integrate health screening and education related to the “Fatal Five” preventable health risks—aspiration, dehydration, infection, bowel obstruction, and seizures—within MATP competition environments. The work will also support referral pathways and caregiver education to promote holistic health outcomes.
The project will begin in February 2026 and conclude by February 1, 2027. Key deliverables include a literature review and stakeholder consultations, development of a protocol outline, creation of a full protocol toolkit, and refinement of the protocol following pilot implementation in two regions. The total compensation for the consultancy is up to USD 70,000.
Proposals must be submitted by January 30, 2026, in accordance with the requirements outlined in the Request for Proposals. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to present their proposals to a panel of Special Olympics stakeholders.
Full details regarding scope of work, deliverables, timelines, selection criteria, and required qualifications are available in the official Request for Proposals document. Interested parties are encouraged to review the document carefully and share this opportunity within their professional networks.
