The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has launched a new grant programme to support multi-disciplinary research aimed at strengthening classification systems in Para sports. With funding of up to EUR 250,000 per project, this initiative will be available over the next four years to International Federations (IFs), International Organisations of Sport for the Disabled (IOSDs), and Recognised International Federations (RIFs), in collaboration with the scientific community.

Classification plays a central role in ensuring fair and meaningful competition in Para sport by defining eligibility and minimizing the impact of athletes’ impairments on competition outcomes. The IPC Classification Research Grants aim to enhance evidence-based and best-practice classification frameworks, contributing to the credibility and integrity of the Paralympic Movement.

This funding opportunity follows the publication of the revised IPC Classification Code in 2024 and is part of the Sport for Mobility programme. Projects eligible for funding must be between 12 and 36 months in duration and be completed before October 2028. The first call for applications closes at the end of September 2025, with four funding tiers available: EUR 65,000, EUR 90,000, EUR 125,000, and EUR 250,000.

A second call for applications will open in the second half of 2026. Additional details can be found on the IPC website: IPC Grants for Classification Research.
