A new research initiative focused on inclusion, physical activity, and sport participation will be officially launched at the University of Worcester on 7 October 2026. The Adapted Physical Activity Research Unit (APARU) aims to establish Worcester as a leading centre for research on adapted physical activity, disability sport, and the experiences of marginalised communities.
The launch event will bring together researchers, practitioners, students, policymakers, and community organizations to explore opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange. APARU’s work will focus on adapted physical activity and disability sport, health inequalities, sport and migration, gender issues in sport, and participatory research approaches.
The event will feature presentations from international speakers, including Dr. Michele Mele (University of Sannio, Italy), Prof. Justin Haegele (Old Dominion University, USA), Chris Bright (Breakthrough T1D UK), and Rachael Williamson (Invictus Games participant).
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about current research projects, engage in discussions on inclusion and accessibility, and explore future collaborative initiatives. Participation is available both in person and online, with free registration for all attendees.
