Loughborough University – School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences are seeking a Research Associate to support a project funded by the Arts & Humanities Research Council.  ‘Gendered re-presentation of disability: Equality, empowerment and marginalisation in Paralympic media’ will explore the media representations of Paralympic athletes in online and social media. The project is designed to build on a growing body of work focused on the role of Paralympic media in shaping and diversifying disability (self-)representation and public narratives at the intersection of gender/sexuality and race/ethnicity, and will seek to explore the influence of Paralympic media on the identities and experiences of disabled people and other stakeholders. It is hoped that the knowledge acquired will contribute to ensuring that Paralympic media coverage continues to effect progressive social change at the intersection of gendered/racial equality.

Applicants will have relevant research experience in the area of sport, culture and/or disability studies, expertise in conducting media research, and a PhD in a relevant subject. You will be responsible for the overall project management including data collection, analysis, dissemination and engagement activities.

Informal enquiries should be made to Dr Emma Pullen, Lecturer, via email to E.L.Pullen@lboro.ac.uk or telephone on +44 1509 226389.
