The International Federation of Adapted Physical Activity (IFAPA) is pleased to announce that Dr. Robert Steadward will be one of the featured speakers at the upcoming International Symposium of Adapted Physical Activity (ISAPA) 2025.
Dr. Steadward is widely recognized as a pioneer in adapted sport and physical activity. He is an Honorary Life Member of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), having served as its Founding President, and has been a Member of the International Olympic Committee. He is also an Honorary Life Member of the Canadian Olympic Committee and a past President of the Canadian Paralympic Committee.
Throughout his career, Dr. Steadward has made lasting contributions to sport, research, and advocacy for people with disabilities. He founded The Steadward Centre for Personal & Physical Achievement at the University of Alberta—an internationally recognized facility that provides fitness, sport, and research programs for individuals with disabilities. He was also a key figure in the establishment of the North American Federation of Adapted Physical Activity (NAFAPA).
His involvement in major international events includes roles with the 1978 Commonwealth Games, the 1983 World University Games, the Edmonton bid for the 2001 World Championships in Athletics, and the organizing committees for the 2005 World Masters Games and the Vancouver/Whistler bid for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
His lecture will offer valuable insights drawn from decades of experience at the intersection of sport, disability, and inclusion.
