The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at KU Leuven has opened applications for a part-time (60%) professorship in Adapted Physical Activity, emphasizing therapeutic applications. The new professor will join the Adapted Physical Activity and Psychomotor Rehabilitation research group, which is part of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences under the Biomedical Sciences Group.
Position Focus
This position calls for an innovative research leader in adapted physical activities for individuals with physical or intellectual disabilities, and/or neurological or psychiatric conditions. The research will prioritize participation and integration within G-sport (adaptive sports) settings and may contribute to G-sport policies in Flanders or Europe. Collaboration with University Hospitals Leuven, particularly UZ Pellenberg, is encouraged, and successful candidates will be expected to publish in top-tier journals and secure research funding.
Teaching Responsibilities
The professor will provide high-quality education in Adapted Physical Activity to Bachelor’s and Master’s students in Rehabilitation Sciences and Movement Sciences. Responsibilities also include supervising Bachelor internships, Master’s theses, and PhD candidates, contributing to KU Leuven’s active, research-based teaching vision.
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a PhD in Biomedical Sciences, Rehabilitation Sciences, Physiotherapy, Movement Sciences, or a related field, with a proven record in adapted physical activity research and teaching skills. Proficiency in both Dutch and English is required, with language training available for non-native speakers. Strong organizational and leadership skills are essential.
