The University of Worcester will officially launch its Adapted Physical Activity Research Unit (APARU) on 7 October 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the University of Worcester Arena, UK, with free in-person and online participation.

APARU brings together researchers, practitioners and communities to advance research on participation, inclusion and inequalities in sport and physical activity. Its work includes adapted physical activity and disability sport, health inequalities, migration and belonging, gender in sport, and participatory and co-production research methods.

The launch will include international perspectives from Dr Michele Mele (University of Sannio), Prof. Justin Haegele (Old Dominion University), Chris Bright (Breakthrough T1D UK) and Rachael Williamson (Invictus Games participant). Current research projects, opportunities for collaboration and networking will also be presented.

A central aim of APARU is to conduct research with marginalised communities, supporting their involvement in the research process and addressing barriers to participation in physical activity and sport.
