Tuesday, 6 April is the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, and the UN is using the occasion to recognize the role sport plays in communities, in individuals’ lives, and in building resilience in the recovery from the pandemic. Through social media activity from Wednesday, 31 March, to Tuesday, 6 April, we will promote the idea that teamwork is essential to building back better, and that we need to level the playing field and end the pandemic by helping ensure everyone is protected from COVID-19.
More than ever, people everywhere want to get back to their lives. But the truly worrying fact is that many people in some of the most fragile places in the world do not have access to COVID-19 vaccines. We need to bolster ambition and work together to promote vaccine equity and end the pandemic as quickly as we can so everyone, everywhere can be safe and can get back to doing what they love. #OnlyTogether can we play or cheer again. #SportDay
Here’s how you can support the effort:
OPTION 1
Share a picture or video showing the value of sports in your life together with a caption that highlights the importance of ensuring we are all protected from COVID-19 so we can return to moments like this in the future. We ask that you include the hashtags #OnlyTogether and #SportDay.
This could be, for example, a picture or video which demonstrates the physical/emotional benefits of participating in sport, the joy experienced as a fan, or the ways in which sports contributes to building back economies and livelihoods.
Please write a personal message for your caption and kindly add a vaccine equity message. A suggested caption may be:
