The 2025 International Symposium of Adapted Physical Activity (ISAPA 2025) will feature a plenary presentation on an innovative rehabilitation model developed in response to the war in Ukraine. Titled “Experience of Superhumans Center in Rehabilitation and Prosthetics for Patients with Limb Amputations Due to Combat Injuries,” the session will be presented by Andrii Vilenskyi and his team from the Superhumans Center at 5 PM on Monday, June 16, in Plenary Room 1.
Established during a time of national crisis, the Superhumans Center addresses the complex needs of individuals with limb loss due to combat trauma. Since its opening in April 2023, the center has provided over 1,000 prosthetic fittings and discharged more than 800 patients following comprehensive rehabilitation.
The center operates as a multidisciplinary hub, combining physical medicine, prosthetics, psychological care, occupational therapy, and social work. Its patient-centered approach emphasizes not only physical recovery but also psychological readiness and social reintegration. Approximately 16% of the patients treated present with multi-limb amputations, and 62% are young adults aged 18–40, requiring advanced prosthetic solutions for active daily living.
This presentation aligns with ISAPA 2025’s theme “Creating New Opportunities to Thrive” and highlights contributions toward the UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), particularly in the areas of habilitation, humanitarian response, and awareness-raising.
