To highlight an important area of research in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation and in sports medicine, The American Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AJPM&R) is launching a new section on Para Sport and Paralympic Sport.
AJPM&R is the Official Journal of the Association of Academic Physiatrists and the Asociación Médica Latinoamericana de Rehabilitación (AMLAR).
Paralympic Sport has provided an opportunity for persons with disabilities to compete at the highest level possible around the world. More research is needed to understand the benefits of sports training and participation on various health condition and types of impairments and disabilities, the optimal type of sport and training prescription, and the effects on psychosocial outcomes.
